Rider Justice champions biker rights – on the road and in the courtroom.

Helping injured motorcycle riders for over 25 years

Scott O’Sullivan, the founder of Rider Justice, has helped injured motorcycle riders for nearly 30 years, and he is sick and tired of riders getting hit, injured, and killed on the roads each year. We believe bikers have a right to ride safely and to enjoy equal rights under the law. Our mission is to represent injured riders and their families, advocate for safer roads, and support the greater motorcycle community. We win cases for our clients and support motorcyclists across the country every single day.

FAQs

Should I get medical attention after my motorcycle accident?

Yes! Unless the wreck is very minor, you should absolutely seek medical attention after an accident. Don’t tough it out. Some injuries may not feel evident immediately after a crash due to adrenaline. It’s important to be evaluated by a professional to ensure you receive proper care and for documentation if you end up making a claim.

What should I do after a motorcycle crash in Colorado?

If you’ve been involved in a motorcycle accident, what you do right after matters. Follow these steps to protect yourself, your case, and your recovery.

1. Call the police right away

Even minor crashes should be reported. A police report is critical when insurance companies get involved, and your lawyer will use it to support your claim.

2. Do not move your motorcycle

Leave your bike where it landed, even if it blocks traffic. Its position helps prove how the crash happened.

3. Take photos of everything

Use your phone to capture your bike, the other vehicle, road conditions, skid marks, and your injuries. Pictures often make the difference in a successful claim.

4. Exchange insurance information

Snap a quick picture of the other driver’s insurance card. This avoids mistakes and keeps things simple.

5. Get witness statements

If you’re physically able, ask bystanders what they saw and get their contact info. Witnesses can confirm you weren’t at fault—something your lawyer can leverage in negotiations.

6. Give the hospital your health insurance, not auto insurance

Tell the hospital to bill your health coverage. This prevents them from draining your settlement by overcharging through auto insurance.

Call a Colorado Motorcycle Lawyer immediately

Insurance companies are not on your side. An experienced motorcycle lawyer knows their tactics and fights to maximize your compensation while you focus on healing. Your initial consultation is free and it’s worth your time to get advice from an attorney who knows how the insurance game works.

How much does it cost to hire a motorcycle lawyer?

It costs nothing to hire a personal injury attorney. We work on a contingency fee basis which means you pay nothing until we win at which time we will take fees from a percentage of the settlement.

Should I call the police?

Yes. Police play an important part in documenting an accident. We have seen it time and time again where the at-fault driver verbally takes responsibility for an accident and promises to pay for damages but then after they have time to consider, completely backtrack. People will say anything at the scene. Without a police report, it’s your word against theirs.

Should I call the other driver’s insurance company?

Absolutely not! Do not speak to the at-fault drivers insurance company until you speak to a Colorado motorcycle lawyer. The opposing insurance company (and even your own) will do everything in their power to minimize or avoid paying anything at all. They will record your call and use anything you say against you. When you have an attorney, you never have to worry about saying something that will hurt your case. Your attorney will take all of the insurance calls.

The insurance company made me an offer, should I take it?

Do not accept an offer without talking to an attorney who specializes in motorcycle crashes. Very often, a quick offer means they know there’s potential for a much higher payout. Once you sign that paperwork, you exclude ever being able to seek further compensation, even if it turns out your have unknown injuries that will affect the rest of your life. Built on Thirty Years of Experience and a Passion for Protecting Riders

Scott O’Sullivan has spent three decades helping injured people rebuild their lives after serious crashes. A graduate of the University of Denver School of Law and a former insurance defense attorney, he understands how insurance companies evaluate claims and the strategies they use when trying to minimize payouts.

That experience has shaped the philosophy behind Rider Justice. Throughout his career, Scott has seen that motorcyclists are often judged differently after a collision. Riders may face assumptions and stereotypes long before the facts are fully understood. Those realities demand attorneys who understand not only the law but also the unique challenges riders encounter after a wreck.

Today, Rider Justice focuses exclusively on helping injured riders and their families pursue accountability and recover the compensation they need to move forward.

Rider Justice remains attorney-led and hands-on. We believe details matter. Every crash is different, every rider’s story is different, and every client deserves the personal attention and advocacy necessary to pursue the best possible outcome.

Riders Face Challenges Most Drivers Never Experience

Three decades of representing injured motorcyclists have shown us that motorcycle collisions are fundamentally different from other crashes.

Riders are exposed. Injuries are often more severe. Visibility issues, road conditions, and motorcycle dynamics create challenges that drivers of passenger vehicles do not experience. Unfortunately, riders are also frequently forced to overcome assumptions that they were speeding, reckless, or somehow responsible for what happened.

One of the most common explanations injured riders hear after a crash is, “I didn’t see the motorcycle.”

But failing to see a rider does not excuse negligence.

Successful motorcycle injury claims often require a detailed understanding of crash dynamics, visibility issues, rider behavior, and the physical, emotional, and financial consequences that follow a collision. Those details matter, and they deserve to be investigated thoroughly.

Our team works to identify every available source of compensation, including uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage, while building claims that reflect the full impact a crash has on a rider’s health, livelihood, and quality of life.

Colorado Roads We Ride Every Day

Colorado offers some of the most spectacular riding in the country, but it also presents unique risks for motorcyclists.

Whether heading west into the Rockies, riding through the foothills, or making the trip to Sturgis with friends, Colorado riders face challenges that are as unique as the roads themselves.

In the Denver metro area, heavily traveled corridors such as Interstate 25, Interstate 70, Interstate 225, and C-470 see thousands of vehicles every day. Busy streets like Speer Boulevard and Colfax Avenue create additional dangers when distracted drivers fail to notice motorcycles.

Outside the city, many riders enjoy routes including US-285, Highway 36, the Peak-to-Peak Scenic Byway, and the Million Dollar Highway along US-550. While these roads offer incredible scenery, they also present hazards ranging from wildlife and loose gravel to sudden weather changes and increased tourist traffic.

Because Rider Justice is deeply connected to Colorado’s riding community, we understand the environments where crashes occur and the realities riders face every day. We share the same roads, appreciate the same freedom, and recognize the same risks that come with life on two wheels.

Colorado Helmet Laws and Rider Rights

Experience has taught the Rider Justice team that many riders are surprised by how much misinformation exists surrounding Colorado motorcycle laws.

Under Colorado law, motorcycle helmets are required for riders and passengers under the age of eighteen. Eye protection is also required unless the motorcycle is equipped with a windshield that meets state requirements.

Colorado has also adopted limited lane filtering laws, making it one of the first states in the country to permit the practice under specific circumstances.

Understanding these laws is important, but legal compliance and fault are not always the same thing.

Even when questions arise regarding protective equipment or riding practices, those issues do not automatically determine who was responsible for causing a collision. Every case depends on its own facts, and riders deserve a careful investigation rather than assumptions or stereotypes.

Knowing your rights after a crash is just as important as knowing the rules of the road.

Colorado Riders Face Real Risks on the Road

According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, motorcyclists account for a disproportionate percentage of traffic fatalities throughout the state. Although motorcycles account for a relatively small share of registered vehicles, riders face significantly greater risks in collisions.

Many serious motorcycle crashes happen in heavily populated counties such as Denver, Jefferson, Arapahoe, Adams, and El Paso counties, where traffic congestion and distracted driving create dangerous conditions.

Left-turn collisions, impaired driving, unsafe lane changes, and visibility issues continue to contribute to catastrophic injuries throughout Colorado.

Those statistics are important, but they only tell part of the story.

Behind every crash is a rider, a family, and a community affected by what happened. Rider Justice believes those stories deserve to be told accurately, compassionately, and without bias.

We’re In It for the Riding Community

The motorcycle community is built on trust, shared experiences, and showing up for one another.

At Rider Justice, supporting riders means more than handling cases. It means being present. It means supporting events, safety initiatives, rider groups, and the people who make Colorado’s motorcycle culture so special.

Scott O’Sullivan and the Rider Justice team have spent years building relationships throughout the riding community. Through podcasts, public appearances, local events, and partnerships with organizations that support riders, our commitment extends far beyond the courtroom.

Trust is earned face-to-face.

That is why Rider Justice remains committed to the people, places, and traditions that make the riding community strong. We are proud to stand beside riders during some of the most difficult moments of their lives, and we are equally proud to celebrate the freedom, friendships, and camaraderie that make riding such an important part of life for so many people.
